Book review of “And how do you feel about that?”

Authors – Aruna Gopakumar and Yashodhara Lal

We are excited to share with you a new release from our TA fraternity.

Co-authored by Aruna Gopakumar and Yashodhara Lal, both of whom have been deeply immersed in therapy work within the modality of TA. This repertoire of stories “And how do you feel about that?” Breakdowns and Breakthroughs in the Therapy Room, is indeed both light-hearted and reflective at the same time. These fictitious accounts totalling fifty takes the reader on a gentle cruise dispelling myths and apprehensions around therapy. Covering a range of issues ranging from marriage, divorce, identities, gender and children, these stories make therapy a very relatable, fun and yet a transformative process.

Troubled by the rise in mental health issues during the pandemic and the plethora of advice around the topic put out on social media, the duo started the journey putting pen to paper.

Highlighting the therapeutic effects of transaction analysis and the deep transformations that can happen through the simple process of examining one’s beliefs and how it influences our current lives, this is indeed a good read both for those in the field of mental health and those seeking therapy as well.

Indeed, a well-conceived and engaging book that demystifies the idea of therapy as a tool for your mental well-being. An even bigger draw is the fact that it relates to Asian cultural beliefs, which a lay reader could identify with. And yes, for those of you who are sitting on that fence, awaiting the gentle nudge to step into your own therapeutic journey, this book is indeed the one to bolster your courage to make that shift
